Before ORANGE SUNSHINE

Many of you know Orange Sunhine. Before that there was Panty Boy, a Punk/Garage Rock band from The Hague, Holland.
Line up: Guy - Drums, vocals (Now Orange Sunshine), Lizet - Bass, Vocals and Edo - Guitars, Vocals.

"True punk rawk band, giving you back that feeling of the good ol' punk rock days!"

"Holland, suburban motorpunk rock, very raw, very crusty."

The Hague's premier punk rock'n'roll since 1992! From Holland's hard rockin' capital comes this heavy motor punk power trio playing punk rawk Australian style (dig Bored!, Cosmic Psychos and Powder Monkeys?), mixing the Detroit motorcity sound of the Stooges and the Dead Boys with '70's hard rock (AC/DC, Motorhead) and after 5 seven-inches they finally have their album released. 11 songs including 'Yin Yang', a Powder Monkeys' cover, and their hit songs 'Hot Wheels', 'I'm a Millionaire' and 'Allright!'. Cheerio, mates!

The First Two Albums Of COLOUR HAZE

The first two albums of Colour Haze are different then the other albums, some more Punk sounding. These albums are out of sale.

Born within the years 1968 1974 some of the musicians played much in bands before, some less, some lived on making music. Contemporary Record Store Section: Stonerrock Colour Haze are a modern Psychedelic (in the words sense) Heavy Rock Three Piece, in the tradition of classic Rock-Trios as Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience or Grand Funk Railroad. Founded somewhen in the last century, the current line-up consists since May 1999. Since then some records have been made and a lot of following was gained. Originating from Muenchen, Germany, the group did a lot of shows nationwide and in Belgium, Holland and Austria. Soon Colour Haze established themselves among the finest groups of Germanys underground scene and are said to be one of the most outstanding current Rock-Ensembles in Europe.

For those familiar with the rest of Colour Haze's discography (which I'd assume anyone interested in this album is, since it's not very well known), Chopping Machine is noticeably seperate from their other albums. Rather than the soothing jam sessions of their later material, Chopping Machine is dark, brooding, and somewhat aggressive. The music channels influences along the lines of King Crimson, Black Sabbath, and Tool; even if the songs have more upbeat music, such as on "Why Don't You?", Stefan's menacing vocals enforce the dark atmosphere.

While I think it would have been interesting to hear how Colour Haze would sound if they were still more evil than happy, Chopping Machine is pretty weak compared to their later work. The production is a little hard to listen to and the songs show potential but generally drag on for far too long. An interesting listen if you're a fan of the band.

By Request: Another Swedish Goodness

Here another one in the line of great bands from Sweden: Firestone. They've made two EP's and they made a split with the Truckfighters known as The Fuzzsplit Of The Century. Unfortunately they quit a couple of years ago.

"Firestone is a five piece band that hail from Orebro, Sweden. They describe their music as a combination of stoner and "rock n' go", which seems to fit the bill here. At times they are similiar in sound to Monster Magnet, Solarized and fellow Swedes Generous Maria.
The lineup is Andreas Will on drums, Kristina Johansson on bass and Oskar Cedermalm and Andreas Sonerlid both playing fuzzed-out guitars. Rounding out the band is Mathias Gustaffson on vocals. They have been together about three years and were a support act for Alice Cooper on the Monsters of the Millenium tour in May 2001 in Sweden which also included Dio and Ratt."

Strange Atmosphere.

Matias from Finland sended me his oneman anti-band project called Bird From The Abyss. And I must say it sounds very strange, but strange is cool!
Bird From The Abyss combines acoustic guitars with fuzz-elements and more strange stuff, like oriental sounding things. I also experience some sixties psychedelic ambiances.
There is only one thing: Bird From The Abyss is with about twelve minutes way to short. But give it a try.

COWBOYS & ALIENS Discography

This is a band that I really like. Too bad these guys has quit. Cowboys And Aliens from Bruges, Belgium has made Stoner Rock in the vein of old Queens Of The Stone Age.

Fans of heavy rock probably are already familiar with Belgian bands such as Millionaire, Arid, Triggerfinger and Channel Zero, and they will certainly love Cowboys & Aliens, hailing from the beautiful medieval city of Bruges. C&A was formed back in 1996 by John Pollentier (guitar), whose actual purpose was to create alternative music. That path drastically changed when Kris Vandekerckhove joined on bas. Inspiration was taken from the ultra heavy riffs of Black Sabbath, and those were completed by ultra swinging rhythm guitars. Henk Vanhee added the final touch with his voice so powerful and strong that it can be compared to the voices of John Garcia (Kyuss, Hermano) and even Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) Without doubt, Henk is to be considered amongst the best rock vocalists of the Low Lands, and the way he dwells on stage just makes you shiver. Their new and inventive style was baptized by themselves groove rock, a term that fits like a glove. Very soon, the Belgian quality record label BuZZville became aware of the existence of C&A which ended in a record deal. The release of their first official full CD A Trip To The Stonehenge Colony in 2002, was a milestone in the Belgian rock history. With lots of national and international performances, C&A promoted the release, and their absolute pinnacle was being the support band for Monster Magnet in Vooruit, Ghent. The band reached its place at the top of the European groove rock scene rather fast, and became that way one of the leading references within the scene. In 2002 the band spent a lot of time on writing new songs for their sophomore effort. The record is baptized Love Sex Volume and consists of 11 songs that were recorded in the famous Hype Studios in Aalst. As C&A were very satisfied with the work from the well-known producer Dee-J on their debut, they also cooperated with him on Love Sex Volume. The mastering was done at Electric City, Brussels, by Alan Ward, who previously worked with bands such as Black Sabbath and Spoiler. 2003 brought lots of shows in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, and C&A were many times accompanied by their American colleagues and label mates Gonzalez. Just before the tour took off, Johan Vandesijpe, a session drummer out of the jazz scene, replaced Peter Gaelens. In May 2004, with Johan on drums, C&A won the first edition of the Graspop Concours. More than 120 bands had taken part in the competition, five were selected for the finale at Biebob, and one gloriously won: Cowboys & Aliens! The jury, not the least, decided unanimously. People of The Music Factory - the Belgian music channel - and journalists from the radio broadcaster Studio Brussels, newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws and some music magazines were convinced without any doubt. The band played a terrific show at Graspop in front of 10.000 enthusiastic people. A few days later, drummer Johan Vandesijpe decided to leave the band due to personal reasons. In the summer of 2004 the band started writing new songs together with guitarist/producer Peter Iterbeke (Channel Zero, Feed, Mantra). Cowboys & Aliens entered the Max Studio in Bruges in August 2004 and stayed there for about 4 months. Mario Goossens (Hooverphonic, Triggerfinger, Winterville) played the drums on all 11 tracks on Language Of Superstars. Mastering is done by Dutchmen Attie Bauw. The well-known producer, who worked with bands as Judas Priest, Scorpions, Latoya Jackson and many others, did a splendid job on the album. In February 2005, Cowboys & Aliens signed a record deal with Apache Productions after breaking up with their long time label BuZZville Records. Meanwhile Peter Iterbeke joined C&A and for 6 months the band is playing shows as a 5 piece. In August 2005 co-founder John Pollentier leaves the band due to family matters and also drummer Mario Goossens decides to leave the band after they played a terrific concert at the prestigious Graspop Metal Meeting for the second time in 2 years!!! While doing auditions the 3 remaining members find Pieter De Wilde as the perfect replacement for Mario Goossens. Pieter, a 23 years old talented guy from Ghent is exactly what the band is looking for. With Pieter beating the skins Cowboys & Aliens played several festivals and club shows during the fall & winter of 2005 including support spots for bands such as Deep Purple, Saxon and Staind.. Conceived with a passion for true and soulful heavy rock, C&A reached another level with Language Of Superstars! Avoiding the clichs and corporate blandness that suffocates the art, this band is a breath of fresh air to real music fans as well as their peers and critics alike. Inspired by the great classic rock of the past (Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy,) and a handful of modern pioneers of today (The Cult, Monster Magnet, Queens Of The Stone Age,), Cowboys & Aliens will help pave the road for tomorrow's music with unconscious soul and freedom. Rock should never be safe.

Some Dirty Water For The Evil Whale

A couple weeks ago The Evil Whale posted a split single with the song Dirty Water from The Heads. I liked the song immediately, but I didn't realize I got already two versions of this song. So here are the two albums with Dirty Water on it.

In the early 90's, in a back street garage somewhere in Bristol, Simon, Hugo, Wayne and founding member Dave Spencer would jam for hours and then retire to Simons house for tea and smoke until we could barely communicate. These were happy days and we really didn't give a fuck about anything other than getting in that garage, away from the scum outside, and turning those amps up to 11. Happy days don't last and paranoia set in. Dave left and then there were three. After some unsuccessful attempts to find a like minded soul, we were introduced to The Rock Prof. Paul was the missing piece in our puzzle. We put out our first 7", 'quad' in '94 and met up with Simon Keeler. He was much more than a label manager and he became our man/nanny. He put up with a lot of shit and I don't think he ever realised how grateful we were. We certainly didn't tell him. All we really wanted to do is play and make a racket. Putting records out would be great but surely no ones gonna buy this shit, we thought. Trying to get us to play gigs made his hair fall out. 12 years later we are still putting records out and still finding it strange that people buy them and come to our rare gigs. Although rare the buzz from playing live still keeps us going especially since adding our own psyche lightshow.
